What Trends are Making a Comeback in 2025?

In the midst of the new year, it's becoming evident that some retro fashion trends are starting to reappear . In particular, trends from the 1960s, 80s, 90s, and the early 2000s. These trends have been seen through: celebrity street style, runways, and in everyday life here at St. Andrews.
With that being said, I would like to go through some of the up and coming trends of 2025 and some of my personal favourites I have seen both on runways and during my everyday walks to class at St. Andrews.
To start off with my personal favourite; the 1980s trend. This trend consists of high rise jeans with an oversized blazer or trench coat and penny loafers. The chosen top for this outfit could vary, it could be a plain white tee or a sweater of some sort. This business-casual look has always stood out to me. It is a combination of a considered “chill” outfit with an added touch of class. This outfit typically is accessorised with either a baseball cap, or a pair of statement sunglasses.
Having done a bit of travel this past year, this style seems to be quite popular in places such as Denmark and London. The picture shown in the example is of Hailey Bieber in 2021 who was jumping on these retro trends early.
Moving forward, the next trend is something I have seen a lot so far this semester at St. Andrews. This is the boho-chic with suede style. This style represents the 1960s coming back into action. This style consists of long layered skirts with a bohemian flare (usually patterned), with either an oversized suede jack or a leather jacket. This is typically worn with a pair of knee high frye boots, and accessorized with chunky necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. This style made an appearance in Paris fashion week 2024 by Yves Saint Laurent. The picture below is from that particular show, and perfectly depicts this style.
The last trend that I will be highlighting is the late 90s and early 2000s style. This style consists of lots of animal print, mostly cheetah, and low rise wide legged jeans. This style can usually be accessorised with a statement belt, and typically worn with athletic shoes like new balance or adidas, but also a pair of flats goes perfectly with this style as well.
With this style, puffer coats, leather jackets, and even a button up sweater is worn to match. This trend feels universal to me, and it seems like a trend that we might never get rid of. This is a certain style that I have noticed here at St. Andrews on a night out at the vic or 601. This style is dynamic and there's nothing not to love about it!
With all this being said, there are numerous other retro styles coming back in 2025, but these are the ones that stood out most for the beginning of 2025 and for many St. Andrews students!
