Thursday 9 February: Bro//ken Hearts Club – The Vic
Not feeling too positive about Valentines Day? This event at The Vic was a perfect distraction for everyone from singletons to loved-up couples. The dress code for the evening was your best red, pink, or white outfits, and colour-coded glow-stick wristbands were available upon entry. A pink wristband meant the wearer was single, blue meant the wearer was taken, and orange meant…. it’s complicated. Guaranteed by the end of the night you would forget about your pink wristband.

Friday 10 February: Valentines at the Vic – The Vic
One of the most anticipated Valentines-themed events of the week was organized by the first years of Lumsden Club. Rumour had it you might be given a ribbon at the door signifying your relationship status… The event was vaguely described as “wild” and “messy,” so attendees flocked to The Vic to find out what that meant. Lumsden not only hosted Valentines at the Vic, but they are delivering roses on February 14th as part of their annual rose sale. If you want to send a rose to a loved one, a potential loved one, or just a friend or your galentine, you can buy them on FIXR (search up Lumsden’s Annual Rose Sale), and a Lumsden member will personally deliver them on Valentine’s Day. The tickets for the Vic were priced at a very affordable £10 and a rose is £2.50, with all proceeds from the Valentines club night and the rose sale going to Lumsden’s longstanding charity partner, Fife Women’s Aid. Fife Women’s Aid is an organization which seeks to empower women and children on the road to recovery from domestic abuse.

Saturday 11 February: FS Revival – Lower College Lawn
Maybe it’s not centered around Valentines Day, but the annual FS show was undoubtedly the event of the weekend. The oldest and largest fashion show in Scotland, FS celebrated its 31st anniversary with a night to remember. The theme for FS 2023 this year was Revival, with models dressed in unique pieces representative of past decades, and the show set to a musical background of everything from the Beatles, to Elvis and Gloria Gaynor. Standard tickets were a whopping £75, but the proceeds go to their charity the Genetic Alliance UK, a non-profit organisation that supports people with genetic, rare, and undiagnosed conditions in the UK. If £75 was out of your budget, you could buy a separate afterparty ticket for a lesser amount of £30. The notorious St Andrews Charity Fashion Show only happens once a year, so whether you buy a ticket for the show, or just attend the after party, you don’t want to miss it.

Saturday 11 February: Galentines Ball – Lupos
If you couldn’t make it down to Lower College Lawn for FS, but still wanted to go out on Saturday night, Lupo’s was the place to be for EmpowHER’s second annual Galentines Ball. Happening two days before the ‘official’ Galentine’s Day, you didn’t have to have an excuse for extending your celebrations by going out with your gal-pals for a fun night. EmpowHER curated a selection of themed drinks for the holiday (one free drink included with the price of admission), food, and a DJ playing everyone’s favourite girls-night-out hits including Taylor Swift and ABBA. What more could you want?

Sunday 12 February: Super Bowl LVII (10 PM)
Do you watch American Football? Maybe not, but do you know an American? Definitely! The biggest American sporting event of the year is being played this weekend on Superbowl Sunday. It is the only event on this list that doesn’t have to cost any money. The game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs is a must watch – another once a year experience. Even if you don’t know (or like) the sport, stick around for the famously entertaining ads during commercial breaks and the iconic halftime show being performed by none other than Rihanna. You can watch the game at Molly’s, The Rule, The Vic, or the comfort of your own bed. Go for the experience, the wings, the beer, and the angry fans yelling at the TV.

Monday 13 February: Valentine’s Day Card Making – BrewCo (7-9 PM)
Want something a little more laid back for your Valentine’s Day celebration? The Art Society will be providing materials to make Valentine’s Day cards for your loved ones, with prices at only £2 for non-members and £1 for members. Grab a seat at BrewCo with your friends and get ready to spread some artistic love on the holiday.

Friday 17 February: Masquerade: Queen of Hearts – The Vic (10:30 PM)
If you happened to miss out on all the Valentine’s Day festivities this weekend, you can still celebrate the holiday next Friday! This event is organised by Masquerade St Andrews and the theme is royalty? Love? All of the above? Make sure to wear red or black to continue the celebrations of the holiday three days after it’s over for only £7.
