Ingmar Berman’s Through a Glass Darkly, adapted by Jenny Worton

19.00 at The Barron at the Byre

Watch the incredible students put on this intense play and support the Mermaids! “Through a Glass Darkly” is a play adaptation of Ingmar Bergman’s Oscar-winning film by Jenny Worton.

The play focuses on the dynamics of a family unit at their remote summer home. David, the estranged father, has just returned from a long book tour to holiday with his teenage son, Minus, his daughter, Karin, and her husband, Martin, a successful GP and lecturer in Medicine. Karin has just been released from a mental hospital where she has been treated for an unspecified condition, much the same as that which killed her mother. Over a twenty-four hour period, all of them must confront questions of love, death, power, and sexuality; what is real, what is illusory, in the face of hereditary sickness and familial trauma.

Content warnings: Mental illness theme, language, sex, sexual assault references, incest, suicide references, strobe lighting.
