The Other Guys Concert – Reviewed

Last Saturday night I went to watch an a cappella concert by The Other Guys. I was there to support one of my friends, but by the end of the concert, I was a major fan of The Other Guys. If you didn’t go to their concert I think you have missed one of the best nights out during the On The Rocks events. So watch out for their next concert coming, you don’t want to miss it!

The Other Guys are an a cappella group consisting of 10 very talented male students singing, dancing and creating a beautiful harmony. They have several concerts including The Other Ball, Christmas concert, and were crowned Scottish Champions at SACC 2022 ! (Congrats!) Due to Covid19, those music concerts were restricted, so I was looking forward to seeing their performance in person.

The venue for this concert was at one of the fancier bars in St. Andrews: Lupo’s. The atmosphere inside was very active and filled with people. The interior was organised and welcoming with warm lights and decorations inside. The clock hit showtime, and I still couldn’t tell where exactly they were going to perform because there was no proper stage for their show. Remaining ambiguous might have been their plan to entertain us, which I personally enjoyed. Once they started humming, the crowd went silent, ready to listen. After they sang their first song, “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong, I was taken aback by their voices. Not only was their singing amazing but so was their dancing, making the performance a whole package. I was standing to the left side of the crowd where I could see the audience’s faces, all shining and smiling to embrace the moment with The Other Guys. Their performance lasted an impressive 2 hours with guests staying until the very last song. They separated the setlist into 3 phases that allowed us to have a break in between and chat with actual performers. The breaks were a perfect chance to move around the event and try out some of Lupo’s wonderful cocktails. During the show, I got to see the girl’s a cappella group “the accidentals”. Their performance was amazing, it looked as though it came straight out of “Pitch Perfect”.

Lupo’s was a great choice of location. While The Other Guys performed, the casual and relaxed setting allowed people to mingle, drink and enjoy the performance. This was great for people like me, who had not seen The Other Guys perform before. For a £7 ticket, the event was absolutely worth it!  Now that I’m an avid fan, I’ll be sure to catch them at an official concert in a music hall to truly enjoy their talented performance and urge anyone who has the chance to go see them in action!
