The Big Furry
The fur coat, once an unironic statement of wealth and glamor, has now been reappropriated into the more affordable and easy-to-maintain faux fur coat in a variety of styles and colours. These coats are warm and easily customisable to your personal taste. My philosophy with these is that bigger is better – fur, even faux, was always meant to be a bit over-the-top.

The Suede with Fur Trim
This might sound rather similar to a plain (faux) fur coat, but these say “I am a groupie” and “I thrift” much more than the above. These 70s-rock pieces are coming back, most often with a button-front closure and longer, more unkempt “fur” for their trim. The best finds for these will be located in charity shops and on Depop.

The Brightly-Coloured Statement
This is a less unified trend than the other two as it encompasses a range of styles, but I strongly believe in the value of having a few unique, stand-out pieces on hand. A statement coat is an especially convenient way to enhance a more classic or versatile outfit. Life is short. Make people look at you with bewilderment.

The Classic Leather Coat
To be clear, this is not the same thing as a leather jacket. Leather jackets, while chic, are not usually warm enough for the winter, and have all blended into a sea of faux fur-lined motorcycle jackets imitating each other. I’m talking about a straight-up Matrix leather coat. People might think you’re a dominatrix, but striking fear in the hearts of men isn’t a bad thing.
