There are a lot of new Netflix shows at the moment and no matter how much some of us are clinging onto old favourites (OG Gossip Girl), eventually we have to find out why social media is so obsessed with Gabriel vs Alfie, if Rue relapsed, and when season 4 of Sex Education is coming out.
Even if some shows seem more satire than serious (do I even have to mention Riverdale?), many of these new shows have varied and aesthetically pleasing fashion that I will help you recreate.
Gossip Girl Reboot
In 2021, fans of Gossip Girl were split when it was announced that a reboot was coming out without original favourites Blair, Chuck and Serena. Despite this, the show has taken an approach that mixes the preppy style of the Upper East Side with new “Gen-Z” trends that include more relaxed fits and more of an “edgier” style than fans of Gossip Girl are used to.
To take inspiration from Audrey from the show, you’ll need a black mini skirt in any style, patterned tights, chunky black loafers, and long white socks. On top, pair a white turtleneck with a grey sweater vest. And of course, this outfit would not be complete without a headband! XOXO.
Sex Education
Admittedly, only having seen season three I can’t claim to be an original pioneer of this show. I noticed, however, that beyond the humour and educational purpose of Sex Education, the fashion is also a really captivating feature as it incorporates a mix of 70’s and 80’s style along with Maeve’s grunge 90’s look.
For this look, it’s all about bright colours. Combine a pair of wide-leg coloured jeans with ankle boots and an even brighter turtleneck with some florals and then a leather biker jacket for a retro look.
Euphoria
At the time of writing this I can safely say that whilst not having watched this show, my For You page on TikTok has basically shown me every clip and edit possible. The glitter, grunge, and neon form the fashion for this show. Costume designer Heidi Bivens explores the characters’ personal journeys through their fashion which is what makes the show so artful in terms of costume.
A pair of flares is definitely vital for the Euphoria style, and if you’re really into the look opt for some low-rise or patterned ones. Then pair with a halter neck top and trainers (don’t worry about cleaning them). For this outfit, it is the accessories and makeup that pull it together, so pair with lots of clips, scrunchies, and statement earrings.
Emily in Paris
The last show that arguably has had one of the most significant influences in terms of fashion is Emily in Paris. The bizarre but awe-inspiring outfits from Emily and other characters Mindy and Camille contribute to the plot by reinforcing that Paris is the fashion capital of the world.
For some reason, Emily loves mixing patterns but her overall style is centred around preppy and chic. Pair a belted pink skirt with white heeled ankle boots, a white satin button-up, and then accessorise with a pink blazer and headband for a day living like Emily in Paris!
Hopefully this gives you some fun inspiration- maybe you were even reading while watching one of the shows!
