Backstage Pass: FS From The Other Side

Last weekend, all eyes were on the FS fashion show. The show has always been one of the most talked about events of the year. I had no idea what to expect, but hearing stories from past years, all I knew was that I wanted to see if the rumors were true of FS being one of the best nights of the year.

To fully understand the process I applied to be a dresser. The dressers are assigned to models to help them get changed backstage during the show. Leading up to the big night, the dressers were there for rehearsals the night before the show and the morning of. Immediately, I was in awe of the entire show, and, like many people that attended, could not believe how incredible the experience was. From the fashion, the models, the music, and the atmosphere, it was a night to remember.

Thinking about the behind the scenes, saying that backstage was chaotic would be an understatement. Between the models coming and going, making quick changes, and all the while the base of the music shaking the clothes racks, there was a lot going on.  Most of the models had around 6 different looks ranging from the lingerie, to swimwear ,to pieces made of materials like cardboard or potato crisp bags, as part of this years sustainability aspect.

Taking into account the months of work that led up to the show, the runway portion is 45 minutes of running backstage, dancing to stay warm, and celebrating the work that went into it. From keeping track of when the models had to go on and come in from other sides, to staying late to make sure the timing of every move is perfect, there is a reason why FS is a favourite, and one of the most impressive shows of the year.
