After finishing 2nd in the league last year, the 1XV are in prime position to supplant their rivals.
St Andrews’ Women’s 1XV have come out swinging this season. First came an impressive preseason victory against Heriot-Watt, where they beat them by a resounding 87-0. Next came a string of 3 victories against Stirling and Strathclyde, both home and away and 1 loss against the Edinburgh Women’s 2XV.

St Andrews are currently second in the league behind Edinburgh, who are the only unbeaten team aside from Glasgow — last year’s league champions. Currently 3rd in the table with a game in hand, Glasgow have the chance at the top spot if they beat St Andrews on November 6th and Edinburgh the week after.
Despite Glasgow’s fixture advantages, St Andrews can put up a fight. Their track record this season has demonstrated their talent and skills, and club captain Lily Paterson has stated their desire to go further than last season, driven by their impressive second place finish.
The skill ceiling for this team appears impressively high: committing to giving new players game time means that even with an impressive degree of squad rotation, they have still been winning. Being able to see the team at the height of their capability is a promising prospect.
With their season just beginning, the 2XV are also ones to look out for. Their second game is home against Robert Gordon 1XV on November 13th, and navigating two full squads at once will be a new challenge for the Women’s Rugby Club.
